Julia Corbin

Ballet & Pre-Pointe

Julia brings over 30 years of experience in instruction and production as well as over 25 years of professional performance experience. She began her training in ballet, tap, and jazz at the age of 5 in the fabulous Florida Keys at Joyce Bennett School of Dance. When her family moved to Pennslyvania she began training under the direction of Chet Zercher and Irma Millard of Dancer’s Workshop in Lancaster, PA. At the age of 10, she was accepted into the formal program at the School of Pennsylvania Ballet where she studied and performed for 4 years. She also trained extensively in New York City with Phil Black, Luigi, and Steps on Broadway. She was a member of the Lancaster Dance Company for 4 years.

 

A fun fact about Julia is her first paid dance job was choreographing and performing in an
MTV commercial for Esprit Clothing at the age of 16. 
 


 

As a professional dancer, she traveled to Japan, Great Britain, and Europe performing in shows, as well as dinner theaters, conventions, commercials, TV specials, theme parks, and the QEII. Throughout the years, she has taught all forms of dance to all ages in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Central Florida. Additionally, she pioneered a dance program in Central Florida for at-risk children that provided them with weekly instruction as well as performance opportunities.

 

For the last 20+ years in Central Florida, Julia has taught at various studios including the Central Florida Ballet, Spotlight Dance CenterTurning Pointe a Dance Studio, and Destination Dance of Oviedo. for the last 13 years, she has been a resident ballet, pre-pointe, and pointe instructor. She is also a Level 2 certified and licensed PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) instructor. PBT is a unique and innovative program developed to help students understand the depth of muscle memory, core stability, weight placement, and correct turnout to accelerate their ballet training. Two years ago she was honored to be named School Administrator at New Dimensions Dance Academy

 

A wife of 28 years and mother of 2, Julia is an energetic and dedicated instructor that takes weekly classes herself, believing that it not only makes her a better teacher but a better person as well. She is passionate about sharing her love, experiences, and knowledge of dance with those she teaches. Taking pride in passing down the traditions, techniques, and etiquette of dance with the greatest of care to honor the wonderful teachers she was fortunate enough to have studied under.
